I should also add that because of his reactions to the raw diet his immune system worked overtime which left him with hypothyroid which he’s also being treated for.

After years of dealing with allergies and bacterial skin infections I’ve finally taken Rudy off of Raw, permanently. The changes were immediately noticeable; the redness around his eyes disappeared, his ears went from red and inflamed to a normal soft pink colour and the chronic licking of the carpeting after each meal (indicator of itchy pallet)…[Read more]

One more note, I recently washed Rudy’s collar which also helped to eliminate a great deal of scratching, but not all of it. So it might help your dog to wash their collar at least at every bath.

Rudy’s on a raw diet and he’s always done very well with it. I’ve changed his food a few times in the last 4 months but it’s had little or no impact on his symptoms. I’ve also been treating the affected areas with a diluted provodine solution which has relieved his itching and has slightly improved the appearance of his skin. I’m convinced…[Read more]

Unfortunately Claudette they won’t be replacing it until I leave. In the meantime I’ve shampooed the carpet and bought an air cleaner and that seemed to alleviate much of it. It seems to be an ongoing process of eliminating the things that he’s allergic to. Right now he has small pustules on his chest still licks his groin, so I still have some…[Read more]

Recently Rudy has been suffering from itchy skin, hair loss (in small areas) and a bacterial skin infection. After spending over $600 in vet bills trying to decipher what the cause of it could be it turns out he was allergic to his nylon collar. He had all of the symptoms in two areas, his chest and front legs and his groin area. When I removed…[Read more]

Thanks M2M. Good advice, I’ll have to try that. I’ve figured out that Rudy might be getting overexcited because he is becoming over stimulated whenever he encounters smells or sounds he’s never experienced before. I’m assuming this is because most, if not all of his walks have been in the same area and on the same streets all the time. He…[Read more]

This is sort of related to my previous topic about his excitable behaviour. I’ve discovered that his behaviour is triggered by getting out of the car, especially if it’s on a street or in a mall parking lot. He becomes over excited and will pull and yank on his leash in an effort to get wherever it is he assumes he’s going. I know this is…[Read more]

From my understanding this is a recent trend but there seems to be scientific evidence to support it. I haven’t spoken with my vet about it yet but I plan to next time I see her. What do you think?

Thanks for all the advice folks.  He seems to be getting a smidg better on his own.  I think it’s because he’s almost through his growth cycle and is settling down a bit.  But I will try your suggestions as he still needs work learning to walk on a leash.
